THE MIGHTY PASSAIC RIVER

The Passaic River in New Jersey has a rich history of rowing, with competition and clubs flourishing since the mid-19th century. The Nereid Boat Club, established in 1866, is the oldest continuously operating rowing club along the river. Rowing on the Passaic also has a long tradition in high schools, with teams from Kearny, Belleville, and Nutley participating. The Passaic River Rowing Association, founded in 1999, has also contributed to the river's rowing community with an extensive rowing program and a state of the art boathouse located in the Bergen County Rowing Center.

Since 1999, athletes from all over the Northeastern states of Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts gather for the chance to row through the exciting and scenic racecourse. This year’s 4,703 meter course harkens back to the early days of the race and once again starts at Nereid and includes wide turns and tight pass-throughs under bridges. Get ready to have a safe and fun head race!
